Timeline of Early 20th Century American Literature

Example: 1905 — O'Henry's short story "The Gift of the Magi" contains many Biblical allusions or references to the Bible. In the 20th century, a writers' style and tone were often influenced by the King James Bible.

1900's

1902-"The Man He Killed" by Thomas Hardy was greatly influenced by the Boer War which lasted until 1902. The poem is about two men and from the perspective of one mans thought process while killing the other man.  

1910's

 1912-Poetry: A magazine of Verse is founded by Harriet Monroe in Chicago which was placed in a magazine where three main poets wrote poems similar to Frost but more specifically, "A Boys Will" (1913), which was his first published work. Frost wrote a lot about the tragic aspects of life which compares to Poetry: A Magazine of Verse's writers who wrote about their bitterly frustrated lives.

1920's

 1922-“The Waste Land” by T.S. Eliot

     This poem was read as a dark diagnosis of a disappointed generation and the present world. It was also about rebirth. It was most likely influenced by 1920’s was the Harlem Renaissance with the outburst of the African American culture.

1930's

1932-"Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?" by Jay Gorney.

Although this is a song, I believe that a song is still a literary piece because it is basically like a story and a poem and was a piece of writing influenced by the events going on. Given away kind of by the title was written throughout the great depression and was obviously influenced by that event.  

teenagers are certainly stereotyped as moody.

most people view teenagers as naturally moody and grumpy, even when this is wrong. many teens are suffering from depression but it is brushed off as "just a phase" or "that's just cause they're a teenager"
