The Bogor Botanical Garden
One of the famous public gardens in Indonesia is the Bogor Botanical Garden It lies 60 kilometers
south of Jakarta. It was built at the order of the British Governor Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, but the
Dutch Governor-General Van Der Cappellen opened in 1817
The large park covers an area of 87 hectares and has more than 15.000 kinds of trees and plants. One of
the most popular plants in it is the giant Raflesia Amoldi which blooms only once a year. There is a botanical
library in it where students can find a lot of books on botany. N is open daily from 9.00 to 17.00 for visitors
The branches of the Bogor Botanical Garden are the Cibodas Botanical Garden on the slope of Gede
volcano the Purwodadi Botanical Garden on the lower slope of Mt. Anjuna, and the Eka Karya Ratania
