There are two systems of measurement: the international or metric system and the English system. As its name says, the international system is more international, while English is used in England and those countries that were, at one time, part of the British empire, although most are shifting to the use of the metric system. The basic unit of the international system for measuring length is: the meter. As long as
the basic unit in the English system is: the foot. The very units of measurement used to measure large distances are kilometer and mile. There are also differences to measure weights, or as it is known in the scientific world, to measure mass. The international system uses the kilo, as its base unit, while the English system uses the pound. For the volume the metric system uses the liter while the English system uses the gallon. If you like cooking and preparing recipes from other parts of the world, it's important to learn to distinguish between these two systems because the recipes use the metric measurements. Although in reality, the cook, like any trade or profession, has its own vocabulary, although even so, it maintains a certain unity in general terms.
