What’s an essay and how do you write one?

they are many kind of essay argumentative essay... informative essay...narrative essay... etc

argumentative essay it's like.. (for example to succeed in life you need to be smart and be persistent)

if you choose both you will have to explain why and take information from the text which supports your claim..

and so Informative essay is the easiest one(for example if they say the world would be better without any crime)

all you have to do is give information and they should relate to the text and use your own examples.
