They also carry fear that they can't show their emotions because it will display their vulnerability.

When the war is over they still have psychological burdens that still follows them such as guilt and grief and trying to come to terms with everything that happened.

One thing they all carry is psychological burden trying to cope with the aftermath , for example Jimmy Cross has not been able to forgive himself for Ted Lavender's death as we see him confides in O'Brien. Norman Bowker experiences an intense grief that makes him drive pointlessly in his hometown lake in "speaking of courage " to write to O'Brien explaining how he never felt the same after the war.
