Why is Oedipus Rex is like reading two stories?

The story has two messages.

Explanation: Sophocles uses the motif of blindness to illustrate the character Oedipus’ tragic flaw hubris/arrogance to show that those who are impulsive will ultimately fail by not listening to those around them.  Likewise, the story focuses on a taboo relationship between Oedipus and his mother Jocasta, so it adds mystery and a psychological aspect.
