To ensure having a meaningful discussion about politics, you must think a lot before the actual discussion. Develop your points, see the argument from both sides, even days before you go in. Then, once your conversation has started, it is important that you listen to the other person's stance. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean that they are wrong or don't have a point, so listening and acknowledging their side is an extremely important part of politics. How can you argue for your side if you don't understand the side that you're arguing against?
