Read the passage about yellow fever.

Yellow fever is a painful, often-fatal disease. Where does it come from and how does it spread? There seem to be common features when yellow fever breaks out. I describe each characteristic, and then offer a solution that may minimize the spread of the disease.

Dense populations. By escaping to the cooler countryside and being around few others, the spread of this plague might be halted.
Stagnant water. Drinking water must be drawn only from running streams and then boiled before consumption. Insect hordes.
Insects of all sorts thrive in the summer. They seem to bring disease. Close yourself indoors, cover your skin with thick clothing, and use repellent.
