Project: Research an Author's Cultural Context Select an author from this unit or a previous unit (or one of your choosing), and write a well-researched expository, or explanatory, essay that discusses ways in which the author's work reflects or questions one of his country's cultural traditions. Examples of cultural traditions include arranged marriage, male superiority, or racial segregation.

Think about how the author you select will allow you to fulfill the requirements of the rubric.

- author's biographical information.
- author's position and contribution to country of origin.
- key ideas and passages from author's work that support thesis.
- reflective conclusion about the author and his/her contribution to literature.
- research you have conducted to gather information about the cultural traditions in question; you will need a minimum of six different sources, one of which is NOT Internet based.
- Develop a thesis about how the author reflected or questioned tradition.
- Organize the research in an outline format; reevaluate and revise the thesis and outline as needed based upon research.
- Write a well-researched expository essay of at least 1,200 words.
- Use the proper MLA format for in-text citations of direct quotations and paraphrased evidence.
- Use the correct MLA format for the works-cited list.
- Edit and revise, then submit the finished product for evaluation.
