Explanation:

The beast had been nice letting the father eat and rest at his castle then the beast stole from him. The beast was being compassionate but the father took advantage of the compassion by stealing from the beast. Take this as an example, if you were given a present you would just be happy and say thank you not beg for more or steal from the person giving you the gift. The beast gave the father a gift letting him spend the night and eat his food and in return the father didn't say thank you he stole his possessions.

The merchant goes in a castle for hospitality and finds a garden. He wants to go back with something for his youngest daughter, simply a rose, because there were plenty in the garden. He picks one not knowing that roses are the beasts prized possession. The merchant ends up needing to give up one of his daughters. Just don't take things from others with asking or just don't in the first place, or you will end up punished.

The man took to rose for the youngest daughter. "However, one of his daughters, who was the youngest of all children, wanted simply a rose.''

Some evidence was "And in that garden there were many." That's what led him to picking one if there was only one, he probably wouldn't have. He just wanted to bring something back for his daughter.
