As I see it, there is no losers in a competition. Everyone wins. One benefit of competition is that it is a great motivator. It drives you to think more creatively work harder, and aim higher. Striving for recognition, science fairs motivate young scientists. Athletes, artists and musicians often evaluate their skills by conparison. For example, a pianist might be satisfied with the way he plays a certain piece until he hear another pianist play it with more expression. Another benefit of competition is the burst of energy that it triggers. If you've ever run in a race, you probably understand this very well. You feel your heart start to pound in stronger rhythm standing at the starting line. That excitement compounds itself as the race begins. This heightened excitement translate into greater speed and endurance.
