space collisions, the U. S. Space Command tracks most of the objects and notifies NASA of
potential hazards. (6) But some items, either too small or too far away, remain beyond
detection, crowding the sky and threatening to compromise future space missions. (7) Though
the technology that enables space travel is sophisticated, the problem is classic too much
junk, and too little space. (8) Increasingly, as science evolves to extend our reach, it must also
devise new solutions for covering our tracks.
