1. I believe it influenced the general tone of american literature, mainly because after we gained independence this gave people their first amendment rights and with that came freedom of speech. Which meant that writers were free to write on whatever they pleased, and didn't have to restrict themselves to laws. So as America got bigger our literature has gotten more and more out there, meaning that we have a pattern of producing books that talk about social taboos. You can see that in the way this country has a banned book section in almost every library.

2. The banned book series in america focuses on books that were deemed inappropriate for children and therefore banned in some school districts. The response to the banned book category being introduced is where I see the themes of liberty, independence and individualism. When the banned book series came out, there was an uproar from parents and teachers, and where some schools conformed to the banning others made a stand against it. They made a banned book where kids were encouraged to read banned books. It was a smack in the face to everyone that wanted to control what kids read, and that is truly an American spirit and theme from the revolution.
