The imagery used by the poet helps the readers to visualise the same things as the narrator see it. For instance, when the narrator said that 'I cremated Sam McGee' the readers are able to visualise him performing the cremation rituals.

The second device used in the poem is alliteration. The use of alliteration helped to develop the rhythm of the poem. For instance, in verse 'There are strange things done in the midnight sun/ By the men who moil for gold;'

Enjambment is the another device used by the poet in the poem. This figurative langugae helped to encourage readers to continue reading the poem. It is used by the poet, so that the reader continue to read the narration of him cremating his friend.
