Take a recipe, for example. Write a recipe of your own. Do not copy one. Think about how you make a hamburger, hot dog, pizza, popcorn, salad, sandwich, or anything that you can make without referring to a recipe. List the ingredients in the order in which they are added. Give exact measures. You may have to use measuring devices to check your own idea of quantities. For example, you probably never measure the amount of mayonnaise you spread on a piece of bread for a sandwich; but if you are writing a recipe it must be exact: "One tablespoon of mayonnaise for each slice of bread," or some similar amount. Give the steps for assembling your dish in the order in which they must be followed. Be sure to tell how many the dish will serve. Your teacher will check the recipe to determine whether your explanation is clear and exact. When you have finished, use your proofreading and revising skills to create a final draft.
