Directions: Use the following sentence stems to create a paragraph about your personal beliefs.

“I believe .”

“My belief in , comes from .”
(Provide a minimum of two to three sentences discussing the experiences and people who helped instill this belief in you.)

“This belief has helped me .” Or “These experiences have ”
(Provide one to two sentences explaining how this belief or the experiences you described have benefitted you)

“I hope this mindset eventually helps me (what you hope to accomplish in life) in the future.”
Example:

I believe adversity is good and serves to make us stronger. My belief in the positive power of adversity comes from my childhood. Things were not easy for me growing up. My father was mean and abusive towards me and my brother until the day he died just a couple months shy of my fifteenth birthday. His death left my family in financial ruin and forced me to get my first job as a fifteen-year-old kid. Although these experiences were difficult at the time, I am confident that they made me the determined and appreciative person that I am today. I hope this mindset allows me to never fear life’s obstacles and to see them instead as opportunities to adapt and grow as a person.

This excerpt is from “the poet” by alfred, lord tennyson. the poem describes a poet's consciousness and perception. which three lines suggest the richness of a poet's thoughts? thus truth was multiplied on truth, [the world like one great garden show'd,] and thro' the wreaths of floating dark upcurl'd, rare sunrise flow'd. [and freedom rear'd in that august sunrise] her beautiful bold brow, when rites and forms before his burning eyes melted like snow. [there was no blood upon her maiden robes] sunn'd by those orient skies; but round about the circles of the globes of her keen eyes and in her raiment's hem was traced in flame wisdom, a name to shake [all evil dreams of power--a sacred name.] and when she spake, [her words did gather thunder as they ran,] and as the lightning to the thunder which follows it, riving the spirit of man, making earth wonder, so was their meaning to her words. no sword of wrath her right arm whirl'd, [ but one poor poet's scroll, and with 'his' word] she shook the world.
