Explanation: I read the whole story, Amy Tan's "Rules of the Game." Then, by what I read, I figured that the conflict was that the mother, due to her culture feels like her daughter should play piano, so that she'd have something to brag about and keep her reputation on a high level. However, the daughter does not want to be a child prodigy pianist like the Chinese girl on TV, she wants to be a writer.  But the mom just wants obedience, which puts the daughter in this box, feeling like she can't be who she wants to be. This type conflict is called Character vs Character, which is external conflict.
