Quizzes are a form of a test of your knowledge (sometimes compared to other people’s knowledge if they are not taken online but on TV shows and such), but their main purpose is to entertain. Aside from entertainment, the biggest asset of a quiz is to help YOU determine your level of knowledge on a certain topic, without any effect on your personal life, schooling, business.

Tests are different in their purpose. Although some of the short tests in schools are called quizzes colloquially, they are still tests. Their purpose is to establish an adequate amount of your knowledge on a certain subject to make you qualified for the “next step”, so to speak. That next step could be a school diploma, web design certificate, driver's licence, etc.

In short, quizzes are there to entertain and give you some personal input about your knowledge (with results limited to your personal social life, bragging rights and such) while tests are conducted and reviewed by third parties to establish if you are eligible to advance to the next level of your schooling, business and such. Therefore, unlike quizzes, tests can have an important impact on your life and career.
