What is the function of the adverb phrase "almost never" in this sentence? We almost never have hamburgers for dinner because my mom doesn’t really like them. It modifies the noun dinner. It answers the question "Why don't we have hamburgers for dinner?" It combines two independent clauses with because. It modifies the verb have.
