Diego never wanted to play volleyball to begin with, yet now he had to sit here on the bench and be lectured by
Coach Stevens about how he'd "never make it to the
Olympics" and how Tim was twice the player Diego was
because of his "drive." The coach was right. Diego didn't
have Tim's drive, or any drive at all. He would rather be
anywhere else, playing any other sport. The heck with Tim,
Coach Stevens, and the whole team.
Last night, he had dreamed about standing on a platform
at the Summer Games and receiving a găld medal –
something he never thought much about since he never
saw himself having any future in volleyball. In the dream,
when he reached down to touch the medal, it was actually
chocolate wrapped in gold foil.
Which interpretation of the passage most clearly maintains the suspension of
disbelief?
