I do agree with Torrence's view of scary stories. I believe that fear should be exercised. It is a natural feeling, and you sometimes must be hesitant. As the text says " Children need to be frightened. We all do. It's an emotion that was given to all of us and it should be exercised.  When you don't exercise it, you lose your sense of fear. "

quite an interesting way to teach topic sentences, because the answer to this question is the best definition of a topic sentence that one can present, it is as if answering the questions taught you how to do it, this is some real teaching, it is terribly well-done.
