Read this excerpt from The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone by James Cross Giblin. In the next few years following the publication of his book, Champollion deciphered many more hieroglyphs. He was named "Keeper of the Egyptian Collections" in Paris in recognition of his accomplishments. Then, in 1829, he got what he had always wanted.
