1 3.2.5 Quiz: Author's Purpose
Which supporting detail is most helpful in determining whether the author's
purpose is to inform, explain, persuade, inspire, or entertain?
Just try not to laugh as I tell you about the time I made my sister a
birthday cake! I'm not the greatest baker, but I was following a recipe. I
mixed everything together just right and poured the batter into the pan.
Then I placed it in the oven and set the temperature to 400 degrees,
just like the directions said.
Exactly 18 minutes later, I pulled out the beautiful cake and frosted it.
Everything was perfect until my sister cut into the cake. As she
removed the first slice, uncooked batter oozed out from the middle of
the cake. Guests looked at me with a mixture of shock and
amusement. That's when I learned an important lesson about
preheating the oven. We had fun retelling the story over ice cream
sundaes at the shop down the street.
