SIMMY
JEWEL

Stage Set:
The two characters are standing in the middle of a living room.

SIMMY: Why didn't you tell me what heartache feels like?
JEWEL: Sweetie, there are things only life can teach you.
SIMMY: But, Mother . . . how'd you ever know? Nobody can reject someone so cool like you.
JEWEL: Trust me, sweetie. I've had my share of heartache.
SIMMY: Ma . . . how did you deal with it? I mean, did you ever get over it?
JEWEL: Oh, I thought I'd never ever smile again or love again, but then I met your father, and I had you to make me forget about everything that is wrong with the world.
SIMMY: Ma, the guys I know are not as nice as Papa.
JEWEL: Remember this: the world is full of all kinds of people. You oughta be careful who you trust.
SIMMY: So, Ma . . . why does it feel like I can never face the world again? I never want to go back to school.
JEWEL: Hey, listen. You will get over it. Maybe not today, but soon enough. You gotta get busy doing other things.
SIMMY: Maybe. . . . Well, I didn't know I could talk to you about stuff . . . I mean, like this.
