Yes. I hope that Angelou would get the conductorette job for the simple reason that a Black person is also entitle to the rights and privileges a White person enjoys.

Being hired to do a job should not be dependent on the skin color, instead it should be based on the capabilities and acumen of the applicant. Angelou exhibited  a passion of doing the job of a conductorette and the only barrier of attaining her dream job is the discrimination she is experiencing as a black person.
