Jeremy’s mother had been a professor at the state university for as long as he could remember. Each semester proceeded the same as the last. She taught classes three days a week and had extended time off in the summers, which enabled her to spend extra time with her children. Jeremy loved his summers with his mother, who was adventurous and fun-loving. This predictability made it all the more surprising when Jeremy’s mother announced one spring day that she was applying for a job as a CEO of a well-known corporation.
