Read the passage from "Things That Matter.” "Well, without a good ankle, I won’t have a chance at the Olympics,” said Rae hotly.

The young man was suddenly silent. After a moment, he said, "The Olympics?”

"I’m in training for the winter Olympics,” Rae said. "Snowboarding.”

"Wow.” He shook his head. He seemed to be trying to clear it of his own worries so he could think about hers. "The Olympics. No wonder you were mad.”
