Rochester is a more humble and content person than before. Jane, however, is not simply a timid, obedient woman anymore, but the strong, able, and more confident than before.

As Rochester is blind and injured as a consequence of the fire, he has to rely on Jane, and their relationship is therefore change – she is not the one depending on him anymore, but it is another way around. They have both matured and realize this two-way relation is true adult love.
