The Short Story

Write a short (3 paragraph) story revolving around one of the plots listed below. Your story must begin with the indicated sentence and end with the indicated sentence.

Option 1

Opening sentence- On a blustery, autumn evening three friends walked home from school through the graveyard that bordered their neighborhood.

Last sentence- Who would have known that the dead have parties too?

Option 2

Opening sentence- She stuck her hand inside the bag and felt a slimy substance and thought, “Where am I?”

Last sentence- She thought things like that only happened in movies. She would never need to be reminded of that moment again.

Option 3

Opening sentence- When Dean and Lisa went to the movies, the never expected their night to…

Last sentence- Lisa closed the door, hoping to never see those ghosts again.

Story is written in third person omniscient. 10 pts

Story contains a central theme (state the theme at the end of the story). 10 pts

Story has highlighted exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. 10 pts
