3. Do you think the murder was "premeditated" (planned) or a "crime of passion"? Support your answer with textual evidence.

In the story "Lamb to the Slaughter," Mary Maloney's killing of her husband does not appear at all to be premeditated. Mary kills her husband as a response to his declaration that he is leaving her. Rather than pre-planning the murder of her husband, she simply reacts to his announcement. Since, presumably, she had no idea that her husband intended to leave her, it does not appear that she planned to respond to her husband's sudden announcement. Thus, one point of evidence that the murder was likely not premeditated is the lack of knowledge Mary has that her husband planned to leave her.
