Fix this essay using the same documents, only getting rid of dead wood and such Video games should be considered a sport for many reasons. The three main reasons that gaming should be considered a sport is that it fits with the definition of a sport, it matches with the same characteristics as other things considered to be sports and it can also give a professional player a scholarship if they are good enough which also happens with professional sports players.

Firstly, in the article titled “What Makes a Sport a Sport? Neel Burton”, the author, writes, "for sport is not physical activity per se, but skill in the exercise of physical activity" using this definition, we can classify videogames as a sport. Videogames require a lot of skill and strategy; for example, a new player is not as good as a person who has been practicing for many years. However, the central part of sports is the physical requirements as well. While yes, it does play videogames on keyboard and mouse and controller both exercise a part of your body, these being the wrists and fingers. Due to the loose definition of a sport in this document, physical activity could be defined as any voluntary movement produced by the skeletal muscles that require energy. If you have ever used a keyboard and mouse for too long, you will start to get tired.

What Defines a Sport? The author Leigh Steinberg gives several definitions, for example, one from "Dictionary. com defines sport as "an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess" and "Oxford Dictionary defines sport as "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or a team competes against another or others for entertainment". Playing video games can fall into both of these definitions due to the previous example; however, he states that "ESPN presents poker as a sport" in this document. Poker is a card game that requires little physical activity but a lot of strategy and thinking; however, it is still considered a sport. He also brings up race car driving, which most consider a sport, however like he says when comparing gaming and racecar driving, "both activities involve skill and dexterity in operating a machine," which is accurate. For that reason as well, gaming should be considered a sport.

Video Games Are a Waste of Time? Not for Those With E-Sports Scholarships by Arielle Dollinger, she says that "the National Association of Collegiate Esports, which is engaged with 98 varsity programs across the United States and Canada, has helped facilitate $16 million in scholarships". This means that as well as sports, some corporations are paying for players offering them scholarships to join their team. She also claims that "The Silicon Valley school is offering "almost a full ride," Ryan said, in the form of an athletics scholarship for e-sports and a leadership scholarship." If schools and esports teams start offering scholarships to professional student gamers as well as a professional basketball player, there has to be some link in a way that both are important in a way.

However, in Sorry Nerds: Video games are not a sport by Matthew Walther, he states, "A sport involves not only skill and competition but physical exertion and at least the possibility of injury." Which is true; how can anyone get injured playing a game on a computer. You can get an injury from playing videogames using a controller or keyboard and mouse, and is quite common when playing for a long time, It's called "Gamer's thumb," which is left untreated for too long cause permanent damage and constant pain. Another common injury when gaming for too long Carpal tunnel syndrome is, which has many side effects like wrist pain, cramps, and numbness. These are possible injuries when gaming that happens a lot; there are many more as well, which happen when playing for too long. Moreover, for the aspects of "skill and competition," there are competitive gaming tournaments that reward the player's hundreds of thousands of dollars; there was even a tournament hosted on the popular game Fortnite that paid the first place winner 3 million dollars. This is because he had practiced for long periods and gained many skills to win the game and earn the "Victory Royale."

Not considering gaming to be a sport is exceptionally idiotic due to its fitting and definitions given by trusted sources like "Dictionary. com" and "Oxford Dictionary" and others. It also fits with other sports like poker and racecar driving, which, while both requiring strategy and thinking, both don't have much physical activity involved. It can also give students a chance to get a scholarship if they join teams, which are like in what are considered to be examples of "actual sports". For these three reasons, it is clear that gaming should be known as a sport.

Read the passage. excerpt from "why equal pay is worth fighting for" by senator elizabeth warren, april 17, 2014 i honestly can't believe that we're still arguing over equal pay in 2014. when i started teaching elementary school after college, the public school district didn't hide the fact that it had two pay scales: one for men and one for women. women have made incredible strides since then. but 40 years later, we're still debating equal pay for equal work. women today still earn only 77 cents for every dollar a man earns, and they're taking a hit in nearly every occupation. bloomberg analyzed census data and found that median earnings for women were lower than those for men in 264 of 265 major occupation categories. in 99.6 percent of occupations, men get paid more than women. that's not an accident; that's discrimination. the effects of this discrimination are real, and they are long lasting. today, more young women go to college than men, but unequal pay makes it harder for them to pay back student loans. pay inequality also means a tougher retirement for women. . for middle-class families today, it usually takes two incomes to get by, and many families depend as much on mom's salary as they do on dad's, if not more. women are the main breadwinners, or joint breadwinners, in two-thirds of the families across the country, and pay discrimination makes it that much harder for these families to stay afloat. women are ready to fight back against pay discrimination, but it's not easy. today, a woman can get fired for asking the guy across the hall how much money he makes. here in the senate, sen. barbara mikulski (d-md.) introduced the paycheck fairness act to give women the tools to combat wage discrimination. it would ensure that salary differences have something to do with the actual job that they are doing, and not just because they are women. senator warren states that the effects of pay discrimination are long-lasting. is this a valid argument supported by accurate evidence? no; warren weakens her point by claiming that the paycheck fairness act would "give women the tools to combat wage discrimination." yes; warren supports her point by noting, "for middle-class families today, it usually takes two incomes to get by." yes; warren supports her point by noting, "pay inequality also means a tougher retirement for women." no; warren weakens her point by noting, "today, a woman can get fired for asking the guy across the hall how much money he makes."
