Students who learn a foreign language acquire an essential advantage in a globalized world. Besides, they also learn how to better communicate with people from different cultures. In a globalized world, students who learn a foreign language have an edge over the competition in the job market. They get to see the world from a different perspective. This perspective may also help their understanding of how economic and foreign policies are shaped, plus their effect on other countries. Studies have shown that students who are proficient in a foreign language have an advantage in their professional lives. In a 2004 survey of 581 alumni of the American Graduate School of International Management in Arizona, a majority of the participants believed that learning a foreign language influenced hiring decisions at job interviews. (Grosse) As a result, a foreign language can be especially beneficial to professionals in the financial sector. Learning a foreign language also gives students an opportunity to learn about other cultures. Having knowledge about another culture also allows for meaningful exchange of ideas between students. Knowing a foreign language can also open different career paths, especially in diplomacy, where speaking and understanding a different language is essential.

While revising, consider these guidelines:

You may need to read the excerpt two or more times to get a clear idea of what the writer wants to say.
Look for the topic sentence of the paragraph, and begin the paragraph with the topic sentence.
Check to see if the paragraph presents information in a logical order, with proper transitions between sentences. For example, if a sentence talks about the professional advantage of learning a foreign language, then the next sentence should not be about a cultural advantage; rather, it should elaborate on the professional advantage before moving to the cultural aspect of the topic.
