Assignment Information Purpose Create a multimedia presentation that uses effective presentation design principles.
Assignment Prompt
An alumnus (former student) has recently donated a large amount of money to your school. How do you
think the funds should be spent? Create a multimedia presentation that can be used to convince school
officials to use the money in the way you think is best for the school.
Assignment Instructions

Step 1: Gather materials and necessary information.
a) Ask your teacher which presentation software you should use and where you should save
your presentation as you work on it. Your teacher may also have specific guidelines about
the file name you should use.
b) Review your notes on presentation design principles from the lesson.
c) Create a plan for your presentation and prepare any materials, such as multimedia, you may
want to use. It may be a good idea to use a media checklist.

Step 2: Create your title slide.
a) Begin by creating the title slide. This slide will
ensure that you receive credit for your work,
but it is not actually part of your presentation
for the school officials.
b) Use your topic to create a presentation title,
and write your name, your teacher’s name,
and the presentation due date on the title
slide.
c) Remember to save your work as you go

Step 3: Create your introduction slide.
a) Create the second slide, your introduction, by clicking
on the “new slide” option. New slides can usually also
be created by right-clicking your mouse, clicking on
tabs, and using drop-down options to access other
menus and tools.
b) Write your introduction text in the notes section below
the slide. This text will serve as the script for your
presentation.
c) Use your script as a basis to create bullet points on your
slide. This introduction slide will be used to engage your audience, introduce your topic, and
present your thesis statement, which is what you will convince your audience of by the end
of the presentation; more specifically, it will state how you think the donated money should
be spent for your school.
d) Add any media you feel will reinforce the information. Ask your teacher for guidance if you
need help finding appropriate media.
e) Remember to save your work as you go.

Step 4: Create three body slides.
a) Create three new slides for the body of your
presentation.
b) For each slide, write text in the notes section to
support your thesis statement. This may
include:
(1) a brief explanation of your reasoning.
(2) evidence to support your thesis statement.
(3) a conclusion to transition to the next slide.
c) Use your script to create bullet points on each slide.
d) Add any media you feel will reinforce your argument. Ask your teacher for guidance if you
need help finding appropriate media.
e) Remember to use presentation design principles as you create this slide.
f) Remember to save your work as you go.

Step 5: Create the conclusion slide.
a) Create a new slide for the conclusion of
your presentation.
b) Place the conclusion text in the notes
section below the slide. Restate your thesis
statement of how you think the donated
money should be spent for the school and
briefly summarize your presentation. Try to
end with an attention-grabbing conclusion.
c) Use your script to create effective bullet
points for the conclusion.
d) Add any media you feel will reinforce your argument. Ask your teacher for guidance if you
need help finding appropriate media.
e) Remember to use presentation design principles as you create this slide.
f) Remember to save your work as you go.

Step 6: Evaluate your presentation using the following checklist. When you can answer “yes” to
all of the questions, you are ready to submit your presentation.
Yes No Evaluation Question
Does your presentation use proper presentation design principles?
Does your presentation present information in ways that will engage your audience?
Does your presentation use language that is appropriate to your audience and format?
Does your introduction slide capture the interest of the audience?
Does your introduction slide have a brief statement about the topic being covered?
Does your introduction slide have a strong thesis statement that clearly states your thoughts
on how the funds should be spent for your school?
Does the body of your presentation have three slides?
Do the body slides present information that supports the thesis?
Does the conclusion restate your thesis and briefly summarize the main ideas of your
presentation?

Step 7: Revise and submit your presentation.
a) If you were unable to answer yes to all the questions on the checklist, revise and save the
presentation before submitting it.
b) When you have completed your presentation, return to the virtual classroom, and use the
“browse for file” option to locate and submit your assignment. Congratulations! You have
created an effective multimedia presentation.
