King Herod ruled over Judea and brought prosperity and modernization to the land over which he ruled. He was warned of the prophecy of a new king of Judea (Jesus Christ) coming to unite the people and ordered what has become known as the Massacre of the Innocents. He caused the deaths of all children under the age of two in Bethlehem in hopes that Jesus would be one of them.
