There are both pros and cons to community service for teenagers. Individuals need to determine if the benefits out weigh the problems. Community service provides job experience, work ethics, college references,  and can help young people become more social. The community also gains benefits from the work being done.

The draw backs can be that community service takes time away from school work, no payment for work, and can take time away from social activities of a teenager.  This can cause grades to drop and more problems. Community service work is a commitment that one has to be prepared to work towards. If the person fails then they have hurt a group or project.

When deciding to take on community service teens need to figure out what works best for them and the situation they are in. A blanket statement, "Teenagers must do three hours of community service a week in order to teach them organization, manners  and attitude towards work.",  is not true for everyone.    Each person must decide for themselves if it is worth the effort.
