2. Paine makes strong use of Pathos, provoking readers' sentimentality. This can be seen, because at any moment he presents statements that justify the need for all Americans to help each other to defeat Great Britain, because otherwise, the suffering that the English crown would cause would fall on everyone's head, without sparing who supported or did not support the independence movements, without sparing children, the elderly, or anyone else.
