I'll lay for you, my smarty; and if I catch you about that school I'll tan you good. First you know you'll get religion, too. I never see such a son." What do these words by Huck’s father reveal about his character? He wants Huck to have a better life than he himself had. He does not believe that Huck will succeed academically. He believes that education will make Huck feel superior. He feels that religion is the only subject worthy of study.
