Read the two passages below. Then compare how each passage uses specific evidence to support its claim.
Passage
Passage 1:
The best way to reduce our environmental impact is to use public transportation. Many public buses and light rails use alternative forms of energy that release 25 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than cars. Also, mass transit reduces the number of vehicles on the road by almost 30 percent, which lessens traffic and provides a more pleasant commute.
Passage 2:
Officials from the Department of Transportation believe that public transit will not be built quickly enough to be a real option for many people in small to medium-sized cities. Therefore, we need to focus our efforts on making sure our personal vehicles are as energy efficient as possible. This not only reduces costs to individual drivers, but it also reduces the detrimental effect on the environment.
