Read the passage. A banana split is a well-known ice cream dessert! To make a banana split, you need to follow a series of steps in a specific order. To start, the dessert is served in a long dish called a boat. Second, one banana is cut in half, lengthwise, and placed into the boat. Third, three scoops of ice cream are needed. Traditionally, it is a scoop of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. However, it can be any flavors of ice cream that one desires. After that, sauces are drizzled over the ice cream and banana. Some popular sauces are chocolate, caramel, or strawberry. Next, traditionally nuts, like peanuts, are sprinkled over the dessert. After the nuts are sprinkled, whip cream is next! The whip cream can be a thick line over all three scoops of ice cream or each ice cream scoop can get a small dab of whip cream. Last, but not least, a maraschino cherry is placed on the top of the dessert! All that is left is to grab a spoon and eat. This delicious dessert that many enjoy was founded in 1904 in Pennsylvania. A man named, David Evans Strickler loved making different types of sundaes at soda fountain stores. He experimented with different flavors of ice cream, sauces, fruits, and other toppings. Before long, his creativity lead him to invent the classic three scoop banana split. This exquisite type of sundae dessert had a combination of flavors that complimented each other well. Back then, it cost a customer 10 cents to enjoy a banana split. Although this price is shockingly low today, it was actually twice the price of other sundaes. It is important to keep in mind that it also included more toppings and ice cream. It didn't take long for this dessert to gain popularity and be available on a national level.
