New sports centre for Newport
The town of Newport is going to have a new sports centre, on the site of the old hospital. At the moment there aren’t many sports facilities in the town, and there aren’t many parks or open spaces. Local people hope that the centre will give young people something to do, as well as encourage older people to get healthier. There are going to be regular buses to the new centre, so everybody can get there easily.
The new plan is for a very big sports centre, with six football pitches, plus tennis courts and other facilities inside. There are also going to be cafés and restaurants. There will be lots to do for people who already play sports, and also for people who want to try a sport they’ve never done before. There will be martial arts instructors, so you can learn how to do martial arts like judo or karate. Finally, if you want adventure and excitement, they are going to build a climbing wall, so you can try climbing. Don’t worry – all activities at the centre are completely safe!
