Read the passage below. Brushing brambles and vines away from her face, Meredith pushed her way into the dense foliage. From time to time, she heard the shrill calls of birds or the flutter of insects around her, but her eyes remained focused on the ground, following the footprints in the soft earth. Feeling a pinch, she looked down to see what appeared to be a twig on her leg, but as she brushed it off, a tiny dot of blood appeared in its place. Turning back to the footprint trail, she moved farther from the people on the trail, focused only on the goal of finding Ben.
