Body Biography Project Choose a character from Lord of the Flies. You will be creating a visual and written portrait illustrating several aspects of the character’s life within the text.

You have many possibilities for creating your biography. There are several suggestions below, but please feel free to come up with your own creations. The choices you make should be based on the text. Above all your choices should be creative, thoughtful, and accurate.

After completing your body biography you will write an essay that explains your body biography. Your essay should accomplish these goals: (1) it should have a detailed explanation of what you included in your body biography and why, (2) it should communicate the significance of your character by focusing on the traits that make him who he is, and (3) it should be obvious that a great deal of effort was put into it.

Requirements
Your body biography must contain the following:
Important visual symbols and drawings
Words, sentences, or phrases that represent your character that are not direct quotations from the text
One or two of your character’s most important quotes
References to one or two of your character’s most important actions

Suggestions
Placement: carefully choose the placement of your text and artwork. For example, the area where your character’s heart would be might be a good place to illustrate the people/objects he holds dear.
Spine: Actors often discuss the character’s “spine.” This is his goal within the story. What is the most important goal for your character? What drives his thoughts and actions? How can you illustrate this “spine?”
Virtues & Vices: What are your character’s most admirable qualities? His worst? How can you make us visualize them?
Color: Colors are often symbolic. What color(s) do you think go with your character? Why?
Symbols: What objects represent your character? Are these objects mentioned in the story itself or objects that just seem to “fit” this person?
Mirror, mirror: Consider both how your character appears to others on the surface and what you know about the character’s inner self. Do these images clash or match up? Is there a side that some characters see but not others? What does this tell you about the character?
Changes: How has your character changed throughout the story? Can you show these changes through your words or artwork?
