Still, like I said, for me (and it is only my opinion), Max and Liesel DO stay together, but not necessarily in the way some people think…But of course, I'm still more than happy for readers to believe they do get married and live their lives together. While it is fair to say everyone has all taken their risks I believe Hans Hubermann to be the most courageous, his actions of care and love, his selflessness for others and his compassionate and giving heart shape him up to be a man of courage surpassing Liesel, Rosa and even Max.

Probably the character in "The Book Thief" that I relate to the most is Max Vandenburg. When Max comes to hide in the Hubermanns’, he is cautious and withdrawn. Of all the characters, he most understands Liesel’s experience, and the two become not just friends but soul mates. The reason why I relate to him the most is because I am also often cautious because I get afraid of taking big risks and I am also withdrawn. However, I can often find one person that I understand and who understands me just like Nax found Liesel. All in all, that is why I relate to Max the most.
