but first let me preface this by stating that i am, by no means, a big guy. 5′10. 140 on average. sure, i know how to handle myself in a combative situation, but at first glance, people would see me as a non-threat, as far as physicality is concerned.

about 2 years ago, i was driving to drop a college classmate off at home when he asked me to stop at a nearby gas station so he could grab a coffee. upon arriving, i had to stop due to a large gathering of people who had crowded around the parking lot and were actively watching something take place, which at the time i couldn't see; but people had their smartphones out so i was sure it was something interesting.

i beeped a couple times and a number of individuals cleared the way for me to enter the parking lot. upon doing so, i noticed what the people were gawking at.

there was a physical altercation about to ensue near the gas pumps.

a young hispanic man was amping himself up and gesturing for an older, burly looking bald white man to “come at him”. the older man was also in a combative stance, pulling up his shorts repeatedly and making threatening lunges, but from a distance.
