Just as we do not appreciate criticism because they weaken our self-esteem and from which we usually defend ourselves by attacking the other.

We need to feel part of something, a family, a group of friends, a work team. This requires fitting in, liking, knowing that others value us, respect us and esteem us. When this happens, we feel safe and secure. It happens to all of us.
