The inference that we can make out of this description is that Della is a passionate animal lover who cares other more than herself. A selfless girl who sacrifice her need to complete others joy.

Another conclusion can be made from the description that she really is depressed and lack a powerful decision making skill. She herself does not know what completes her. She not know when to marry and how to cope up with emotion.

She is very excited but at the same time not knowing what to do at the moment. She is desolate and striving hard fighting the war of loneliness. Della dont express her feeling just mourning the tears of hurtful sorrow within oneself concealing world inside her small cognitive.
