Kemp's ridley turtle is one of the most endangered sea turtles in the world. It is one of only two species of sea turtles that lays eggs in large nesting groups known as arribadas. They generally nest on beaches along Mexico's Gulf coast, with some nesting in Texas. There were once vast numbers of this kind of turtle. In fact, in 1947, at least 42,000 nested together on a beach in Mexico. Unfortunately, people harvested the eggs for eating.
