At the end of Chapter 6 (page 63), Jem decides to go on a mission to retrieve his missing item. Scout panics and begs him not to do it, but Jem says, "I - it's like this, Scout... Atticus ain't ever whipped me since I can remember. I wanta keep it that way." Why does Jem say this? What does it mean for him and his relationship with Atticus?
