Tuesday: text structure Many literature enthusiasts are familiar with Pablo Neruda, the poet. However, not too
many people are aware that he was also a diplomat and politician. He was born in
1904 as Ricardo Eliecer Neftali Reyes Basoalto and used a pseudonym, Pablo Neruda,
which later became his legal name. Neruda's more popular works are about love and
romance, especially during his younger years. Then, he shifted his writing to more political
work, such as letters to support activists. After that, he began writing poetry on everyday
things, objects, and experiences. When his health started to fail, he wrote about death.
Many of his last poems were published after he died. He has remained one of the most
popular Chilean poets of all time.
