“If” is a poem about becoming an adult. Rudyard Kipling lists several characteristics of a strong man. The Jungle Book is a fictional story about a boy becoming a man in the jungle. Both writings show the difficulty of leaving childhood to become an adult.
The Jungle Book is a story about a family. This family went through many problems, especially when Mowgli left the jungle to learn about Man. “If” is a poem about family. I think Rudyard Kipling wrote it for a member of his family and it is full of advice about dealing with family problems.
“If” is about dealing with wicked people in a difficult world. The Jungle Book has a very wicked character named Shere Khan. Shere Khan wants to break rules and gain power. He will stop at nothing to get Mowgli.
